We have had two weeks of Mindful Me! Please check out this update from Miss T on the exciting things happening during our Mindful Me days! This week, our focus was on mindful listening.
During our class, we began by listening to a story about a girl in need of a quiet place to escape from a noisy environment. Following the story, the students engaged in a guided relaxation exercise to practice mindfulness. To wrap up the session, the kids had the opportunity to express their creativity by drawing a picture of their own quiet places.
I appreciate your child's attentiveness and engagement during these sessions. There is one more session left with Mindful Me, so please stay tuned for more updates!

During our lesson with Mindful Me, the students engaged in a wonderful story about coping strategies to help them calm their emotions. Following the story, they had the opportunity to create their very own calming jars. I encourage you to ask your student about how the jar works and what they learned from the activity.

Prophetstown-Lyndon-Tampico CUSD #3 Families,
I want to update you on the serious motor vehicle crash involving our students that has shaken our community today.
It is with great sadness that I must inform you that three children have passed away. These students attended PLT Middle School and PLT High School.
Our district is committed to doing everything we can to help our students with the grieving and healing process. To that end, we have activated our crisis counseling team to be at PLT Middle/High School (38 Ferry Street, Prophetstown) tomorrow, Friday, March 29th beginning at 9:00am. There will be counselors, social workers, and area ministers present to support our community.
This loss will affect everyone in our school family and in the Prophetstown-Lyndon-Tampico Community. Students may have a difficult time dealing with the loss, and we encourage you to talk with your child.
At this time, the district will not be releasing the name of the student out of respect for the privacy of the families.
Sincerely,
Heidi Lensing, Superintendent
Prophetstown-Lyndon-Tampico CUSD #3 Community,
Some of our district students were involved in a very serious automobile accident this afternoon that has understandably caused great sadness throughout our community. We are limited in what we can say at this moment and will be providing more information as it becomes available. Please keep everyone involved in your thoughts and prayers through this difficult time.
Sincerely,
Heidi Lensing, Superintendent
Reminder - Tonight's school board meeting will be held at Tampico Elementary School in the gym. Open session will begin at 7:00pm.
Last week, the students engaged in various activities to help them recognize and express their emotions.
We started by reading a short story that discussed different feelings and what they might feel like. Following this, we practiced describing objects using descriptive language - such as a mouse being sneaky or quiet, or a sun being warm and bright.
To conclude the lesson, the students were encouraged to draw a picture that represents a feeling without using any words. It was heartwarming to see many students choosing to draw things that bring them joy.
Overall, it was a meaningful and engaging activity that allowed the students to practice recognizing and understanding the emotions they experience.

Step right up, folks! The PES Circus Du 3rd Grade is coming to town! Join us for a night of excitement and wonder on Friday, March 15th, at 6pm in the PES Gym. Bring the whole family for an unforgettable experience! Admission is donation- based. See you there!!

Today (March 8) was the original end of the 3rd quarter. As a result of the 5 emergency days we took in January, the end of the 3rd quarter will now be on Friday, March 15.
This week in Mindful Me, we explored the benefits of being present and the joy that comes from living in the moment. Our students engaged in group discussions, listened to a captivating short story, and embarked on a classroom scavenger hunt to practice mindfulness. To conclude the lesson, each student decorated a bracelet as a tangible reminder to 'stay present'. Each student also received a flyer with information about joining 4H, which could be a wonderful opportunity for them.

Happy Valentines Day!
