The Panther Board of Control (BOC), which includes administration and board members from both Erie and PLT, has been discussing the idea of keeping the same athletic hosting sites for grades 6–12 during the 2026–2027 school year as are being used in the 2025–2026 school year.
This has been discussed at the BOC level. The BOC does not have authority to make final decisions about hosting sites. Its role is to consider information, review options, and, if appropriate, make a recommendation to the Erie and PLT Boards of Education. Any official action on hosting sites can only be taken by the two Boards of Education.
The discussion centers on whether piloting this arrangement for one year (2026–2027) would provide benefits for student-athletes. If recommended and approved, the plan would be reevaluated in the spring of 2027 to determine whether to continue, adjust, or return to a rotation model.
The main factors under consideration include:
Consistency: Establishing a home base for programs, which can provide stability for student-athletes, families, and coaches.
Equipment Longevity: Reducing the need to move larger equipment and uniforms between towns, which can cause wear and tear and shorten the life expectancy of those items.
Communication and Logistics: Providing clarity for parents, families, officials, and opposing schools on practice and game locations.
Facility Planning: Allowing districts to prioritize long-term improvements in designated varsity facilities, while continuing to maintain all facilities.
It is important to note that no action has been taken. This is a topic of discussion only, and nothing changes unless both Boards of Education formally act on a recommendation.
The long-standing partnership between Erie and PLT athletics is built on providing the best possible experience for student-athletes. These conversations are part of our ongoing commitment to evaluate options, gather feedback, and do what is best for our students.
