QUARTERLY SCIENCE PROJECTS
GUIDELINES
Each quarter, students will be required to turn in a science project which will count for 25% of their grade.
FIRST QUARTER
Our science curriculum begins with life science and fall is the perfect time to collect specimens for either a leaf collection or an insect collection. Please follow the guidelines listed below to complete this project. A minimum of 20 specimens is required for each collection.
SECOND QUARTER
Research Report
Students may choose any scientific topic for their research report. Some possible subjects may include:
Scientists
Fields of Scientific Study (Weather, Solar System or Space Exploration, Dinosaurs, Tropical
Rainforests, Desert Animals, etc.)
How Things Work (a simple machine, water filtration system, electrical circuit, etc.)
The paper must be 1-2 neatly written pages or one full typed page with a list of sources used.
THIRD QUARTER
Science Experiments
Students will complete 5 experiments and fill out a data log sheet for each. Experiments may be selected from the textbook, library book, or a website, such as the one listed below.

FOURTH QUARTER
Science Fair Project
In the spring, there will be a Science Fair at TES. All fourth grade students will be required to construct a project for display. These do not have to be elaborate or made from expensive kits. I have some books with ideas that can be used and there are many websites that offer ideas too. Here are a couple that I like:

Parents are encouraged to be involved and help with the projects. Students need to be able to show a thorough knowledge of the project through the display and a demonstration (if applicable).
