"Predetermined notions of talent and ability can be confused with a unique point of view." --Tony Feher Activity 1 Your first task is to visit artist Tony Feher's page on the ACME web site; you can view a number of works by the artist on this site. You should then visit the ARTslanT web site. There you will find images of Feher's work, an interview with the artist and Tony Feher's biography. Please read the interview; to get to it you must scroll down the page, through the biography, and click on Rack Room. After you have read Feher's interview and looked at his works, you should choose one piece of his art work that you are particularly attracted to. Write up a short critique of the work and be prepared to present it to the class. Use the following guidelines to help facilitate your critique: Describe the work...what media did the artist use?..what colors?..opacity or transparency?.. Describe the setting in which the work is displayed...is it an installation?..indoors or out?..is it in a gallery?..what impact does the location have?.. What does the piece make you think of? How do the materials the artist used impact your reaction to the piece? What message do you think the artist is trying to send? Does the use of everyday cast-off objects give the piece more or less value as a work of art?
You may also view a short YouTube video of one of Tony's installations at D'Amelio Terras gallery in New York, NY, in April of 2008.
