Saving the Sea Turtles

Introduction

You have just read Turtle Watch by George Ancona. There are several more species of sea turtles that are also endangered. As a group, choose one species that you think should be saved and research it using the links provided. Then, create a PowerPoint presentation that tells us how this species can be saved.

The Task

  1. With a partner, look at the library books about sea turtles. Also, briefly explore these turtle sites. Choose the species that your group will research further.
  1. Check the sites to find a photo of your turtle.  Copy the URL of your picture and paste it into Inspiration. Save the photo in your folder.
  2. Choose another member of your group to draw and color a picture of your turtle. Scan the picture and save it as a jpeg file in your folder.
  3. Choose another member of your group to draw a picture of your turtle using "Kid Pix" or "Paint". Save it in your folder.
  4. Members of your group, who are not drawing the pictures, will research the links above to answer the questions on the "Think Sheet". Also, use books, Encyclopedias, and Encyclopedia CDs, such as Encarta and Grolier. Include any other important information that you found on the back of the sheet. Be sure to include the title and the author of the book where you found the answer or the URL of the site. Get back together with your group to discuss the information.
  5. Decide who will do each page of the PowerPoint Presentation. Your presentation must include the three pictures you have saved and:
