Each group will create a PowerPoint presentation where they will include what can be done to save their species of sea turtle.

Multidimensional Activities

Activities Prior to Computer Use

  1. The students will read and discuss Turtle Watch by George Ancona in their Reading books.
  2. They will break into groups of 3 or 4.
  3. They will briefly look through books and internet sites to decide which species of sea turtle they want to know more about.
  4. They will need to divide up tasks.
    • Draw and color their turtle to be scanned
    • Draw their turtle using a paint program
    • Choose a picture of their turtle on an internet site and e-mail or write a letter asking permission to use it in their PowerPoint project.
    • Plan their PowerPoint project and who will do each page.

Activities While at the Computer

  1. Students will work together to explore the turtle sites, books, and Encyclopedia CDs listed in the materials section.
  2. Answer questions on the Think Sheet.
  3. Draw a picture using a Paint Program.
  4. Scan picture that a group member has drawn.
  5. Copy a picture of their species of sea turtle and place it in their folder on the server to use later in their PowerPoint presentation.
  6. Create PowerPoint presentation.

7. When finished, work as a group to complete online activities.

  • Activities After Using the Computer
  1. The groups will present their PowerPoint presentations to the class.

They will print out the page so they can write their answers on it.
