Welcome to our school!

Prophetstown Elementary is a beautifully maintained, neighborhood school, located just three blocks from Main Street/IL 78 and one block from the community library.  It houses approximately 300 students in Preschool and grades K-5 with an average class size of 20 students.  The school employs 45 staff members, including a full-time registered nurse, counselor, speech/language pathologist, reading interventionist and media/library coordinator.

Prophetstown Elementary maintains a continuing and collaborative focus on improving academic achievement within a safe, caring environment.  Several programs/initiatives are utilized to meet this goal.  Students’ reading achievement is assessed and monitored locally through a Response to Intervention process and AIMSweb, a web-based, data management system.  Academic and behavioral concerns are addressed by the Teachers’ Assistance Team (T.A.T.) which includes members of the teaching staff and a School Psychologist and Social Worker who are employed by the Bi-County Cooperative and partner with Prophetstown Elementary in meeting the specific needs of individual students.  Students who exhibit social and emotional difficulties receive small group instruction within a role-playing model through T.E.A.M (Together Everyone Achieves More).

Safety is a priority at Prophetstown Elementary, and we are proactive in ensuring the welfare of our children.  Our building’s Crisis/Management Team works cooperatively with the community’s first responders to review our crisis plan and to conduct emergency drills annually.  Steps to Respect and Second Step, bullying prevention programs, are implemented in grades K-5, and are designed to coach all participants in bullying situations – the bully, victim, and by-standers.

Prophetstown Elementary benefits greatly from the support it receives from the community.  Volunteers read with children, complete clerical work, and assist with special events each afternoon five days a week.  The fund-raising efforts of Parents for Students (PFS), our parent organization, provide many educational opportunities for our students, including transportation to field trips and materials/supplies for the classrooms.  The Prophetstown Education Foundation is also a source of financial support for our building.  Their generous donations fund special assemblies and projects that enhance student learning.

We are proud of the educational opportunities available to students and families at Prophetstown Elementary.  If you would like more information or would like to tour our facility, please contact me at (815) 537-2345.

Sincerely,
