All About Me Tech Talk

Lauren 5C

The 5th grade classes at Prophetstown Elementary School just did a PowerPoint called All About Me. It was about you. To start this project, all the students had to bring in photos from home to put in their PowerPoint. Then if we needed to, we would search for other photos online or in Microsoft Clipart.  Once you had your pictures, you could start making your slide show.  Once you got done with that, you could put sound into your slides. Then you could put in animations.   When you were done with everything, everyone got to show their slides to the whole class. I really liked this project.

Monster Exchange Tech Talk

Jaiden 4J

Our 4th grade classes have been working on a Monster Exchange project.  We drew monsters using Paint. Using Word we wrote all the steps to draw the monsters.  Our teacher, Mrs. Megli, gave us someone else’s directions, and we tried to draw their monster using their steps.  Then we told our partner what to fix.  They will be at http://www.plt3.org/pes/projects.html and click on the 2011 Monster Exchange.  Then we drew monsters from our partners at a school in Mississippi (4W) or from New Mexico (4J). I learned how to use Paint.  I liked drawing the monsters.

Internet Safety Tech Talk

Mackenzie 5C

The 5th grade classes at PES have been learning about Internet Safety. We used Microsoft Publisher, Inspiration, Microsoft Word and the Internet. We used 10 Internet Sites. They were all stages in our Scavenger Hunt on the USA-SOS Internet Site. We used Word to but answers that we found on the Scavenger Hunt. At the beginning of our Unit in Internet Safety, we had to take a Pre-Test. Then at the end of the Unit, we took a Post-Test. The Pre-Test was to see what we already knew. The Post-Test was to see what we learned. After we did the USA-SOS Internet Scavenger Hunt, we made a brochure on what we learned. It was super fun. We used Inspiration to organize our brochure. We had to have 4 pictures and five rules we learned about what not to do on the Internet. I think the best part of the whole thing was that we got to make a brochure.

Leatherback Tech Talk

Addison  -5K

The 5th grade classes at Prophetstown Elementary have been working on a sea turtle project. We got to draw out of a box what turtle we got.  We used a lot of Internet sites to get information about our turtle. If you drew a picture on paper, you got to scan it.  We also got to draw a picture on the computer using Paint. We used Landmark’s Citation Machine. We also used a lot of books. We got to do an Inspiration and a Power Point. We put the facts from the Inspiration on our Power Point. I learned that the Leatherback Sea Turtle is the biggest turtle. My favorite part about this project was either drawing the picture of the turtle or making the PowerPoint.

Word Fun Tech Talk

Damion 4W

In computers we did a word fun project. I did Metaphors. Samantha did Palindromes. Clayton did Stinky Pinkies. It was very fun. I did mine alone. We got to change the color of the words. We made a slide show, and we did a background, and we picked which way the words came in. We picked pictures that go along with them. Now we are writing about them. Mrs. Megli helped us. This came from Prophetstown Elementary.

Simple   Machines   Tech   Talk

Grace  4W

The fourth graders at PES have been learning about Simple Machines in the computer lab and in science.  We learned how they work and what they do.  One website we used was EdHeads.org.   We took a pretest before we did it so Mrs. Megli would know what we already knew about them.  Then   we   kept   using the Ed-Heads website.  We   went through different   rooms and   we had to find the simple   machines and answer questions about how they work.  Then after everybody   was   done with all   the rooms, we took the Post test.  The Post test is the same as the pretest.  I had a lot of fun with this because some things I didn’t know.  Now I do.

Iditarod Tech Talk

Grant - 5C

The 5th grade classes at PES have been working an Iditarod project. First, we drew for our mushers (racers) in a box. Then we watched a video about the sled dogs and how they train. Next, we started keeping track of our musher’s position in the race. Every day, we went to the Current Standings website on the Iditarod main page. We wrote down the position of our musher and when he/she got into the checkpoint. Next, we started an organizer on a computer program called Inspiration. We found interesting facts about the race and about our mushers.  We found the web URL and then copied them for a further use. When we finished with our Inspiration, we started a Microsoft PowerPoint. We took our information from the Inspiration and put it in our PowerPoint. We used the web URLs from the organizer and used an internet program called Landmark Citation. We put the citations in the Works Cited page in our PowerPoint. In this project, I learned that the Iditarod mushers never give up. I enjoyed filling out our musher position page and finding pictures on the internet.

Science Project Tech Talk

Mackenzie V.

This last couple of weeks the 5th grade at PES have been studying   a certain planet.  I have been studying the sun. We have used the Internet, Inspiration, and   Microsoft Publisher. We made a brochure about our planet.  In our classroom, we did a lot of research about our planet. Also, at home, we made a model of our planet. We had a lot of very cool planets brought into the classroom.  I loved making the planet. I also liked looking up facts about the sun.
