Tampico Elementary Facility Review

The Portable Classrooms instructional usage needs to be terminated in the very near future.  The two story 1938 classroom area is not able to fulfill the instructional needs as desired.  Crisis plan and student safety concerns are of a major magnitude.  The southeast corner of the building is sinking and pulling away from the main part of the building.   The outside east wall has external water problems developing into internal water problems.  Evaluation of these issues gives one the view of being past the point of remediation.  If the 1938 building was removed it would take away the east wall of the gymnasium.  Without this wall the gym would not be able to stand.  Removal of the east wall while supporting the roof would be most difficult and probably cost prohibitive.  Without the gym, portables, and the 1938 structure we have four classrooms and an office remaining.  The entire facility has not had new roof materials for many years and this is a concern in the not to far future costing near $200,000.  The four remaining classrooms need new windows resulting in an additional cost of more than $50,000.  The lunch service facilities and appliances are in need of upgrade with electrical wiring for the increasing service load of technology being a concern.   Other desired student safety precaution equipment includes security fence, playground equipment and rubber playground mat costing almost $100,000.
